Is Jessica Lange ready to bid sweet dreams to a nearly 40-year career?

When asked on Monday's Today show about comments she made to the Los Angeles Times a few weeks ago that she plans to retire sometime in the future, the 64-year-old actress revealed she's looking forward to trying something new.

"Yes. I think within a couple of years," Lange told cohost Savannah Guthrie about her desire to give up acting. "I want a new adventure in life. I've been doing this quite a long time."

When the anchor quizzed her about what new endeavor she might take up, the two-time Oscar winner wasn't sure.

But she said, "I want to be open to the possibility and I think you can only do that if you're not committed to something else."

Lange is currently making the media rounds promoting the third season of American Horror Story. Titled American Horror Story: Coven, she plays Fiona, the head of an order of witches who arrives at a school in New Orleans for witchcraft aiming to protect the coven and its secrets.

The latest edition of FX's horror anthology costars Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe and Sarah Paulson.

One possible activity that Lange might dive into full-time once she retires is writing.

The erstwhile Tootsie star recently penned a children's book called It's About a Little Bird, which includes beautiful black and white photographs taken personally by Lange and then hand-tinted and illustrated.
