Country's leading ladies hit the mark with gorgeous ball gowns, while the men missed it with ill-fitting or overly casual looks

Country's biggest stars kicked off their cowboy boots and strapped on their highest heels to attend last night's 2013 Country Music Association Awards in Nashville.

And it was those gals who embraced good old-fashioned glamour who impressed us the most with their red carpet style.

Take Taylor Swift, who had a winning look—on top of her four awards—with a stunning Elie Saab ball gown, which set the bar high for her fellow country crooners.

But singers like Kellie Pickler, who wowed in a sleek black strapless number and Miranda Lambert, who showed off her newly svelte figure in a jewel-toned Roberto Cavalli, certainly didn't disappoint either.

Meanwhile Kimberly Perry stole the spotlight from her fellow The Band Perry members in a gorgeous white embellished gown, while Carrie Underwood distracted us from cohost Brad Paisley with her many outfit changes throughout the night.

But our favorite Underwood look had to be the Ralph Russo couture creation with the sheer skirt that she wore on the red carpet.

Laura Bell Bundy's high-low skirt, on the other hand, had us feeling, more low than high, since the lacy dress appeared to have been abruptly chopped off from the front. And speaking of lacy looks, we didn't mind the lace bustier of Haley Orrantia's gown, but when combined with the dull floral pattern of her voluminous skirt, it made for a busy, Frankenmash of what appeared to be two dresses in one.

Kacey Musgraves wisely went for a monochrome style instead with a white gown, but sacrificed sleekness with a sheer overlay decorated with patterns that ended up looking like weird spots, especially along the frock's illusion neckline.

And then there were the boys who missed the fashion mark.

We can't help but wonder if Brantley Gilbert's CMA outfit is Nashville's version of the Canadian tuxedo. Whatever the case, we're not huge fans of the denim-on-denim look in general, and we definitely could have gone without seeing it on a red carpet.

As for the other gentleman who made our worst dressed list, Brett Eldredge, we commend the crooner for suiting up for the occasion—we just wish his blue outfit had fit properly! We're not sure if this was a last minute wardrobe change, but Eldredge looked like he about to pop as he walked down the red carpet.
