Because after five seasons of obsessive watching, re-watching and another watch for good measure, we are going through Breaking Bad withdrawals. 'Scuse us while we go fire up Netflix yet again...
Sure, they will never be Walter White, Jesse Pinkman or Agent Schrader ever again (unless you count them popping up in Better Call Saul), but it's nice to see the talented cast of AMC's Emmy-winning series taking the next steps in their careers. Some are moving behind the camera, some are sticking to the small screen and some are on their way to becoming big movie stars. Wherever you go, we will faithfully follow. Even if you pick questionable projects. We promise. Let's check on where are Breaking Bad favorites are now, and what they have lined up next:
Bryan Cranston (Walter White): He's racked up Emmys for his role, and he is a hot commodity in Hollywood, lining up new projects left and right. He'll star in next year's Godzilla reboot alongside Tinseltown's next wave of hot stars: Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Cranston also will lend his Heisenberg voice to Kung Fu Panda 3 and he just finished directing another episode of Modern Family. Finally, How I Met Your Mother fans can look forward to Cranston reprising his role as Ted's former douchebag boss Hammond Druthers in an upcoming flashback episode.
Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman): We won't make a Top Gun joke here, but you should know that we want to. The trailer for Paul's next project, Need for Speed, features our second-favorite meth cook in a cross-country revenge race. Think of it as a continuation of Jesse giddily driving away from the meth prison in the Breaking Bad finale. He's also lined up a movie role in Ridley Scott's new film Exodus, which stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver. You know, just a group of up-and-comers.
Anna Gunn (Skyler White): As we exclusively revealed on Monday, Gunn will guest star on The Mindy Project as an OBGYN trying to woo Mindy (Mindy Kaling) over to her practice. She's also filmed her titular role in the drama series Rita, which is a remake of the Danish show of the same name. It was originally filmed as a drama pilot for Bravo, but the network has since passed and the project remains in limbo.
Dean Norris (Hank Schrader): Agent Schrader my be dead, but Norris' career lives on as James "Big Jim" Rennie on the CBS series Under the Dome, which will return for a second season in the summer of 2014. You can see him on the big screen now in The Counselor, starring Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz.
RJ Mitte (Walt Jr.): Mitte has been booking modeling gigs since finishing up his role as Walt's son on Breaking Bad, including a racy photoshoot Dark Beauty magazine. He was recently cast in the ABC Family drama series Switched at Birth as a pre-med college student who will bond with Daphne (Katie LeClerc). Switched at Birth returns with its third season in Janurary.
Betsy Brandt (Marie Schrader): Brandt currently stars alongside Michael J. Fox as his wife in the NBC freshman comedy The Michael J. Fox show, which got picked up for a full 22-episode season.
Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman): Fans loved his seedy lawyer character on Breaking Bad so much that Vince Gilligan is making a spinoff based on Saul! The prequel series recently greenlit by AMC is tentatively called Better Call Saul and will follow Saul's life before he became Walt's lawyer. Any and all Breaking Bad character are welcome (and encouraged) to drop by the show. Looking at you, Mike!
Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring): The man who exited the series in what is likely the coolest TV death ever currently stars as Major Tom Neville in the NBC drama series Revolution, which is in the middle of its second season. Next up is the film Poker Night, where he will appear alongside Sons of Anarchy star Ron Perlman.
Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmantraut): In our opinion, his death on Breaking Bad was by the far the saddest, so Gilligan better be working on bringing his character to Better Call Saul. Until then, you can catch Banks on Community's fifth season as a criminology professor who will appear in at least 11 episodes. And speaking of Community...
Vince Gilligan (Creator): The mastermind behind Breaking Bad will make his acting debut on the NBC comedy as a smooth-taking gold digger who gets involved in a fight happening between Annie (Alison Brie) and Abed (Danny Pudi). Besides Better Call Saul, Gilligan will also be hard at work on his new CBS drama Battle Creek, which has already been picked up for thirteen episodes by the network.
