Steve Rogers is back in action!

The first trailer for Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier has hit the web, courtesy of iTunes, and finds the '40s boy scout played by Chris Evans getting used to the present day two years after teaming up with The Avengers.

It doesn't take long before the Captain becomes entangled in a web of intrigue when one of his colleagues is attacked. Eventually, the First Avenger stumbles on a conspiracy that threatens the entire globe and finds himself the target of a group of assassins.

To help unravel the mystery, Cap teams up again with Avengers pal Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

The teaser also gives fanboys their first glimpse of Robert Redford as S.H.I.E.L.D. leader, Alexander Pierce, an old buddy of Fury's who offers Rogers some prescient advice on how to adjust to the not-so black-and-white era he's now found himself in.

"Are you ready for the world to see you as you really are? Look out the window. You know how the game works. Disorder, war. All it takes is one step," Pierce tells him.

The clip contains plenty of high-octane thrills and explosive effects, not least of which is a crashing S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier.

As Rogers digs deeper, he finds his life in increasing danger. Giving him some much-needed assistance however is Anthony Mackie playing a new ally, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sam Wilson, better known to Marvel mavens as the Falcon.

The comic book company's first African-American superhero, the Falcon can speak telepathically with birds, not to mention has wings and can fly and kick major butt with the aid of his military training.

Marvel

Together, Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon come up against a new enemy, the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), a mysterious man from Rogers' past who shares similar super skills and is brainwashed into becoming an assassin.

No doubt, Cap's going to need all the help he can get beyond his signature shield to stave off this latest baddie.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
