Reese Witherspoon is giving fans a sneak peek at her latest role; the star plays author Cheryl Strayed in the upcoming flick, Wild.

The blond actress shared the pic on her WhoSay account and captioned the shot, "So excited to play @CherylStrayed in a movie!"

The 37-year-old celeb is seen wearing a bright blue backpack and boots similiar to Strayed's fateful footware while hiking through rugged terrain. She appears to be wearing minimal—if any—makeup along with a worn-in T-shirt.

Witherspoon is taking on the role of the real-life Strayed, who documented her arduous 1,000-mile trek through the Pacific Crest Trail in her moving 2012 memoir.

The book follows the trials and tribulations of Strayed's journey as she travels on foot (sometimes without boots!) from the Mojave Desert to the state of Washington. Strayed took on the challenge after the death of her mother and end of her marriage brought her to the brink of despair.

Since then, things have been looking up. The book became a bestseller after it was featured in Oprah's Book Club.

And Witherspoon isn't the only one who's excited about the role.

Strayed herself tweeted a heartfelt response to the actress' behind-the-scenes glimpse.

"The first photo of Reese Witherspoon as me in 1995!" she wrote. "Crazy beautiful amazing to see this."
