Lorde Stands By Selena Gomez Diss as Cher Lloyd Joins Feud

"I don't think I say anything that isn't backed up," the "Royals" singer said

While Lorde may have clarified her recent Taylor Swift diss, it seems that the singer is sticking by the controversial comments she made about Selena Gomez.

"I think there's a funny culture in music that's only happened over the last 15 years, that if you have an opinion about something in music that isn't 100 percent good, you're a 'hater,'" she explained in a recent interview with MTV News. "Even if you have perfectly reasonable grounds for that critique." 

"People will say exactly what they think about a movie or a TV show, and that's fine, but as soon as you say it about a record, you're like some little zombie in a funny dungeon," she added.

The "Royals" singer initially slammed Gomez' hit song "Come & Get It" for its lyrical content:

"I'm a feminist and the theme of her song is, ‘'When you're ready, come and get it from me,'" she explained. "I'm sick of women being portrayed this way."

Despite the backlash, particularly on social media, Lorde is standing her ground.

"I have pretty strong morals and opinions being in pop music, and I can't help but express those, which I think people appreciate," the 16-year-old beauty told MTV News. "I mean, I don't think I say anything that isn't backed up. Most of the time I will stand by things that I've said."

While Lorde may be defending her diss, Cher Lloyd has since weighed in on the twosome's feud and admitted she was shocked to learn about the young beauty's not-so-kind comments.

"Why does she [Lorde] have to go do that? She's doing so well—what a knob," she told J-14. "Why would she do that? She's sitting at number one."

And it's safe to say the former X Factor star is taking Selena's side.

"I think she's going to eat her words, which she obviously already has, and I think for someone who's gaining so much success so early, she should be considering herself lucky. It takes a lot of work," she explained. "You know what, though? If she said something about me, it'd be a different story. I wouldn't stand for any of that, I'd be straight back on it."

Gomez responded to Lorde's initial comments, saying, "I appreciate everybody's opinion, especially because I've covered her music lots of times. But I think at the same time, that feminism and that specific thing is very sensitive.

"Because in my opinion it's not feminism if you're tearing down another artist," she continued. "So that's the only thing that I feel, but you know, she's young. She's got so much talent, she's gonna take over; she gets it, so I don't take it to heart."
