Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian and Macklemore Among Celebs Honoring GLAAD's Spirit Day

Who's who of entertainers are doing their part to speak out against bullying of LGBT teens

Count Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Macklemore, Nick Cannon and Demi Lovato among a host of celebrities showing their support for Spirit Day.

The annual observance—which was first started by a Canadian teen in 2010 and has been promoted by GLAAD ever since—encourages people to wear purple or go purple online in solidarity with LGBT youth who are victims of bullying.

With this year's Spirit Day takes place Thursday, Oct. 17, E! News runs down how Hollywood is commemorating the occasion, starting with a slew of stars spreading the good word on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Among them was Ashton Kutcher who tweeted a funny pic of himself and cast members Jon Cryer and Amber Tamblyn in honor of the special day.

In addition to all the social media action, Oprah's OWN Network also joined MTV, VH1, Logo, TV Land and Sundance Channel in turning its on-air logo purple in honor of Spirit Day.

Major League Baseball turned its Twitter and Facebook photos purple and plans to run a Spirit Day PSA announcement during Game 5 of the ALCS tonight.

Other folks wearing purple on TV include Jimmy Kimmel, panelists of The View and hosts of Good Morning America and Today among others. While Betty White and her castmates on Hot In Cleveland got into the spirit by releasing a special video.
