After just six weeks of dating, Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough have decided to break up, sources tell E! News. The Vampire Diaries actress and the Dancing With the Stars pro were first linked in late September after being introduced through Julianne Hough, Dobrev's BFF and Derek's younger sister.
"It was nothing serious," an insider explains. "They were just having fun." Derek's rep declined to discuss the Emmy winner's personal life, and Dobrev's rep did not respond for comment. The insider adds that their breakup was a mutual decision: "There was no drama."
The stars were rarely seen in public together during their short-lived romance. In fact, they were photographed just once, on Oct. 5, when they visited Universal Studios' Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights in L.A. Dobrev, 24, has been busy shooting the fifth season of her supernatural CW drama in Georgia, while Derek, 28, has been teaching Amber Riley how to shimmy in L.A.
According to Us Weekly, which first reported Dobrev and Derek's breakup, geography was a major factor in their split. "The distance was too much to handle," a pal told the magazine. Another insider insisted that the relationship merely "played itself out."
