The "Roar" singer was there to promote her new album, Prism, as well as her upcoming Saturday Night Live appearance. What really got people talking, however, was her outfit.
With her hair in pigtails, the 28-year-old pop star looked like a naughty Catholic school girl in a House of Holland top featuring the image of the Virgin Mary. Perry—whose parents are evangelical Christian pastors—completed her look with a leather Belstaff skirt and Wolford stockings.
Perry arrived on set as her boyfriend John Mayer's 2002 hit "Your Body Is a Wonderland" played. "You guys are so funny," she told host Jimmy Fallon. All kidding aside, Perry said, "I'm so glad I could finally be on your show!"
As of now, there are no plans for Perry to join host Bruce Willis on Saturday Night Live Oct. 12. "I wish I could do some comedy sketches because I love being around comedians, I love the air, I love the kind of craziness that's going on upstairs, but I have to go all over the world and I'm only one person," she explained. "I'm not like in a band or in a girl group, so I have to kind of delegate my time very carefully. I'm like picking out the costumes for the dancers, writing the lyrics and making sure the lights are right."
Perry said she looks up to SNL veterans like Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig. "I just love self-deprecating women who can kind of make fun of themselves and it's not all about them and their nice lighting. They don't have to be chic in every shot," she said. "They can kind of laugh at themselves."
The "Dark Horse" singer has been busy gearing up for the release of her third studio album, a follow-up to 2010's Teenage Dream. "I think the difference between [Teenage Dream] and this next one is it's kind of vulnerable and raw and stripped down," said Perry, who later played Taboo with Fallon. "It's an evolution, it's three years later and a bit more grown-up, but still having lots of fun. I mean, look, I'm in pigtails. I'm not that grown up!"
