Dario Franchitti is on the mend after fracturing two vertebrae on Sunday, Oct. 6. The famed driver was injured during Houston's Grand Prix after his car vaulted into a fence, causing debris to injure 13 fans and an IndyCar Series official. Franchitti also fractured his right ankle and suffered a concussion.

The four-time IndyCar champion was driven to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where he had surgery to repair his ankle. Fracnhitti's wife, actress Ashley Judd, immediately rushed to her husband's side. "Thank you for the prayers for @dariofranchitti I have only clothes on my back & the dogs but that's all that we need & we are on our way," the Divergent star tweeted.

Professional driver Graham Rahal, who finished 18th, shared his concern via Twitter as well. "Forget about my day, I hope @dariofranchitti and everyone involved is ok," he wrote. "That was flat out scary."

Scoring official Kim Tyger suffered minor injuries and went to the hospital. Two fans were also treated at a local medical facility.

Franchitti, 40, and Judd, 45, announced their separation in January after more than 11 years of marriage. It's unclear if the couple has since reconciled or if they simply remain on good terms.

"We have mutually decided to end our marriage," they said at the time. "We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed."
