That was one mother of a premiere!
We just watched How I Met Your Mother's final season premiere and it was even more amazing that we could've imagined. In the special one-hour episode we laughed, we cried, we gasped, and we Googled the sonsabitches cookie recipe. (These ones here look pretty amazing!)
Complete with flashbacks, flash-forwards, and many Mother smiles, HIMYM's premiere was a wonderfully informative kickstart to the series' ninth and final season.
All you really need to know is that the Mother (Cristin Milioti) is absolutely adorable. OK fine, we'll gush a little bit more! After starring in a number of hilarious scenes on the train with Lily (Alyson Hannigan) we now know that the Mother shares a number of dorky similarities with unknown soul mate Ted (Josh Radnor). We even learned of her hilarious not-driving-fast-enough nickname for Ted: Lady Tedwina Slowsby.
We knew that we as fans would get a chance to get to know the Mother, but we were thrilled to see a tear-jerking flash-forward at the end of the episode that showed us just how perfect these two people are together.
In the final moments of the premiere, we see that Ted and the Mother have been dating for a year and he decides to bring her (and the croissant crumb in her bra!) back to the Farhampton Inn. Not only did we see that the Mother and Ted have incredible chemistry together, we were also treated to an oh-so-sweet kiss. Please excuse us while we dance around the office again!
As for the rest of the gang, here's what you may have missed: Marshall (Jason Segel) still hasn't told Lily about accepting the job as a judge and he ended up on an impromptu road trip from Minnesota to NYC in order to make it to the wedding in time. To cope with Marshall and Marvin's absence, Lily teamed up with a bartender named Linus in order to drown her sorrows in as much alcohol as possible.
It turns out that Ted didn't actually have Robin's necklace because he lost it during the time he was planning on moving in with Stella (Sarah Chalke). Lily suspected that Ted flew across country to Stella's storage unit in California to look for it in an attempt to ruin Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) wedding. Although he denied her wild accusations, we see in a flashback that four days earlier he did fly out to Cali. Whether or not he actually found the locket is to be determined.
Things for Robin and Barney are surprisingly smooth despite two major hurdles that were thrown at them tonight. For a moment, they thought they shared a cousin (Well, they do, but not by blood) and later James (Wayne Brady) dropped the bombshell that he was getting divorced.
