Talk about plum perfection!

Purple is the color of royalty, so it's comes as no surprise that many of the gals who walked the 2013 Emmys red carpet reached for gowns in the regal shade.

After all, in addition to vying for one of the coveted awards, many guests have their hearts sets on being crowned best dressed!

The rich jewel tone definitely caused us to notice the likes of Mindy Kaling, Alyson Hannigan and Heidi Klum, who were pretty in purples for the big night. Hannigan's strapless Marchesa number perfectly complemented her red locks, while Kaling and Klum went for updos and let their gowns take center stage.

Kaling's Edition by Georges Chakras dress featured dazzling jewels along the neckline, while Klum' sparkled thanks to her shining Atelier Versace gown.

Other stars decided to go green for the evening—and we're not talking about recycling! Veep's Anna Chlumsky glowed in an emerald Badgley Mischka gown, while Mayim Bialik went for a brighter take on the hue in an eye-catching Oliver Tolentino gown.

Sarah Hyland tempered the gorgeous green shade of her CH Carolina Herrera frock with a lacy black overlay that had her fitting in with the evening's other biggest trend.

Many a gal reached for black gowns covered in the feminine material, including Lena Heady and Aubrey Plaza, who wore long-sleeved outfits that had an almost Goth-like feel to them.

But the lacy trend wasn't reserved for the gals! Jesse Tyler Ferguson proved the delicate material can look just as good on the guys as it does on the ladies by sporting a fashion-forward lace jacket by Brooks Brothers.

And then there was Amanda Peet whose multitextured lace dress landed her a spot on our worst dressed list.
