Things are heating up on the Coldplay front.

The mellow "Yellow" band is not only giving a download of the first single from its upcoming fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, but also plans to perform two free concerts to promote the release.

Fans can download "Violet Hill" from the band's website for one week starting Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. GMT (8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT).

A 7-inch vinyl version of "Violet Hill" will be included gratis in the May 7 issue of British music rag NME. The full album drops June 12 in Britain and June 17 in the U.S.

To celebrate, Coldplay has confirmed it will play a free show at London's Brixton Academy June 16, followed by a complimentary performance at New York's Madison Square Garden June 23.

Details on how to win tickets for the shows will be available on the band's site tomorrow.
