Sunday night's broadcast of the2013 MTV Video Music Awards smashed ratings with 10.1 million viewers and snagging the title of the most-watched entertainment telecast of the year in the 12-34 demographic. And in their encore performance, MTV snagged an additional audience of 2.8 million viewers bringing their total to an impressive 12.9 million viewers.
The first-ever award show to be broadcast live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center, the 2013 VMA's were up 66 percent from last year's telecast and the ratings jumped 47 percent.
We hope that MTV is currently sending an Edible Arrangements bouquet to Miley Cyrus to thank her for controversial teddy bear and twerking-filled musical performance. According to an MTV press release, the former Disney starlet's duet with Robin Thicke set a new Twitter record for tweets per minute clocking in an astounding 306k tweets per minute, surpassing the previous record holder, Beyoncé's Super Bowl performance.
Adding to the list of accolades, the Sunday night special shattered previous records across MTV's web, mobile and social channels with last night now ranking as the biggest VMA day in history in terms of total visitors, page views and streams.
During the two-hour telecast, social media exploded as fans passionately reacted to the performances and winners generating 120 national and worldwide trending topics on twitter, and 1.2 million Instagram likes.
