InstagramWhile lots of celebs made the 2013 MTV VMAs more exciting than its been in years (props to Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake!), one star flew completely under the radar. Rihanna—who is usually the life of the party—decided to play it low-key to the point of almost invisible.
Not only did the "Diamonds" singer not perform or present, she didn't even walk the red carpet!
Even more shocking? When the 25-year-old was spotted in the audience she was wearing only a simple MC Lyte T-shirt from her River Island collection, jeans and a mini cross grill on her front teeth. Obviously this was a huge surprise since the star rarely steps out in an outfit that's not show-stopping.
In fact, her look was more dressed down than the ensembles she wears day-to-day. Take a look at the duds she wears when shopping, clubbing, and relaxing on vacation—all much fancier than her casual combo from last night. The style is even more subdued when you compare it to the sexy LBD she changed into for the after party (far left) or look back at her stunning white Adam Selman gown she wore at least year's VMAs (far right).
Perhaps her tee and jeans combo was Plan B after a possible wardrobe malfunction? Jordin Sparks told E! News she had to switch outfits last minute because of a similar situation that same night.
