Louis C.K. Talks to David Letterman About Spotting a Dead Body in the East River

    Louis C.K., David Letterman CBS

Louis C.K. is known as a comedian, but what he happened upon this summer was (mostly) no laughing matter.

Appearing on Tuesday night's Late Show, the funnyman dished to David Letterman about the time recently he took a boat out and cruised around Lower Manhattan when he heard over the radio a Coast Guard report of a dead body in the East River near his position south of the Queensboro Bridge.

"As soon as they said it, I looked down and there was the dude in the water," said Louis. "Just a floating dead person."

Needless to say, it came as a bit of a shock as this was the first time the FX star had ever seen a dead person.

"It was creepy and weird. I felt embarrassed for him a little bit," C.K. confessed. "I was the only person there, so I called the Coast Guard and said, 'I got the dead guy. He's right here!' And so they said, 'Please wait there.' And so I was just floatin' in the water, it was just me and him."

When asked by the gap-toothed comic how he felt coming across such a scene, Louis admitted it made him definitely think about life and how to best be respectful to the deceased.

"Well, you know, I thought about it. This was a person, this is a story, this is a life and he's just a floater now. That's what they call him. They call 'em floaters. I felt all kinds of things. But at one point, I was like, I had my phone. But I don't want this guy in my phone. I don't want a dead guy…I don't want to do that," noted C.K. "But I tried to think of what I would want if I was dead in the water and somebody was there."

C.K. then said that after the cops showed up, he let them do their thing and left. He later learned after looking it up on the Internet that the man may have jumped off the bridge.

After scoring nine Emmy nominations this year for his namesake cable comedy, Louie, the actor is currently making waves on the big screen costarring with Cate Blanchett and Andrew Dice Clay in Woody Allen's critically acclaimed new drama, Blue Jasmine.

As for what he was doing in the flick, C.K. described his role in it in his characteristically unassuming manner.

"I felt like they were painting this masterpiece and I was just trying not to ruin it," he added.

The comic also played a NSFW voice message he received from the Diceman.

Filming on season four of Louie kicks off in September and the new episodes are slated to premiere in May, 2014.
