It's a sad day in Hollywood.
The entertainment industry was rocked by the death of Lee Thompson Young on Monday as the actor, who is best known for his work on Disney Channel's The Famous Jett Jackson, took his own life, his manager confirmed to E! News. He was 29 years old.
Following Young's tragic passing, we look back on six of his most memorable roles, including his most recent work as Detective Frost on Rizzoli & Isles and his superhero turn on Smallville...
1. The Famous Jett Jackson: On this Disney Channel classic, Young snagged his first TV role playing Jett Jackson, a teenage actor who worked as a secret agent on the fictional TV show-within-a-show called Silverstone. The series was a smash hit for Disney fans airing from 1998 to 2001, and even garnering a full-length made-for-TV movie. Plus, it had such a catchy opening theme song.
2. Smallville: The actor made a lasting impression on the cult hit's rabid fanbase as Victor Stone aka Cyborg, a metahuman who was an off and on again member of the Justice League. Starting off as a fellow student of Clark Kent's, Victor gained superpowers (super strength, stamina, durability, etc.) after he was rebuilt and experimented on by Dr. Alistair Kreig following a deadly car accident with his family.
3. Rizzoli & Isles: For the past three years, Young delighted fans on the TNT series as detective Barry Frost. At the beginning of the series, Young's character was extremely squeamish whenever he was around blood, thus making it extremely odd that chose homicide detective as his profession. Despite his weak stomach, Frost proved to be a skillful fighter as well as a computer and technology wiz. As of now it is unclear how the series will write off Detective Young from the force, however TNT has released a statement on Young's passing.
4. Scrubs: Young only appeared on the hit comedy Scrubs for three episodes but he certainly made a huge impression on both the doctors at Sacred heart Hospital as well as the audience. The late actor played Derek, a surgical intern who J.D. tasked with the sacred responsibility of narrating the episode and inner monologing his every thought.
5. Friday Night Lights: In the 2004 film that came out before the beloved TV series, Young played third-string running back Chris Comer who became the team's star after standout Boobie Miles was injured. Though the team lost in the State finals, Comer led the Odessa Panthers to the State title the following year in the film that perfectly captured teenagers living with big dreams in a small town.
6. FlashForward: In the shortlived but ambitious ABC drama about the world post-global blackout, Young took on the role of FBI agent Al Gough, who died saving a woman named Celia's life after he got a glimpse of his future in the blackout. Agent Gough was one of the first characters to make a decision to change their future, saying, "My future doesn't have to play out that way. I found a way to to change the game."
