There seems to be some truth to the old adage that hindsight is 20/20.

In the newest issue of Elle magazine, Ethan Hawke waxed poetic about his marriage to Uma Thurman and his regrets about tying the knot back in 1998.

"Success when you're young is really overwhelming," he told the mag. "The world felt out of control. And I wanted to stop it from spinning so fast. I thought marriage would decrease my variables or something. I was absolutely wrong."

The actor blamed his age, and emotional immaturity, when it came to saying "I do" to the blond beauty.

"There was this discovery that the male brain isn't done until 28. I definitely think my frontal lobe was not finished," he admitted.

"I had no business taking vows that would last more than two weeks."

And seeing as though he was 27-years-old, he only had one year to go before he could make a more sound decision (in his eyes).

The former couple had two children together: a son Levon, 10, and daughter, Maya, 14.

Their five year marriage ended in 2003, but the couple didn't finalize their divorce until August 2005.

In 2008, Ethan was finally ready to say his vows again when he got married to Ryan Shawhughes. The couple has two daughters together, Clementine and Indiana.

Uma went on to date financier Arpad Busson, with whom she has a daughter named Rosalind or "Luna" for short.
