Cynthia Nixon is sounding off on Anthony Weiner's sexting scandal.

The politically active actress, who has publicly voiced her support for New York mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio and even spoke at a fundraiser for him in May, says she thinks it might be time for Weiner to drop out of the mayoral race following the latest leaked photo scandal.

"I don't really know what to say about that," Nixon told us earlier today at VH1's Do Something Awards in Hollywood. "I think there are people that are hoping that Anthony Weiner would get out of the race. I don't think he's going to, but it's his decision."

Nixon added, "He should let the voters decide. I think that's a legitimate point of view. Personally, I would like him to get out of the race, but I understand his point of view."

While Nixon isn't the biggest fan of Weiner, she is supporting her do-gooder pal Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Nixon was attending the Do Something Awards to honor the Modern Family actor for his marriage equality organization Tie the Knot.

"I am very excited," she gushed to reporters. "I haven't seen him since he got married, so I'll see if he looks different. But his organization Tie the Knot is so great, so genius and I think it's wonderful that VH1 is noting it and bringing attention to it. So I wanted to be here to honor him, too."
