In our world, when a makeup artist gives a starlet a well-executed retro winged cat eye it's like when a pitcher throws a perfect game (just ask your husband or boyfriend for a definition)—it's a rare but beautiful thing. Rachel Bilson showed up to her new movie premiere The To Do List last night in Los Angeles rocking a cat eye right out of the Sophia Loren handbook, glowing skin and a retro pale pink lipstick. Meow.
We love that the usually sweet and conservative "Hart of Dixie" star left her minimal makeup at home and took a chance with this dramatic look. To amp up the sexy, Bilson's hair was bedhead chic with texture and messiness, worn half back with random loose braids.
Get the Look: Rachel's makeup artist, Amy Nadine, divulged all the products she used to achieve this look last night on Instagram. Ms. Nadine started by mixing Tarte Maracuja Foundation in Light and Medium and applying it all over Rachel's face. Tip: Apply foundation with fingers to avoid losing too much product in a sponge. The warmth of your fingers will also help the foundation blend into your skin. Finish by blotting face with a makeup sponge.
Nadine used Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner to create Rachel's pussycat eyes. Start by creating a thick line along your upper lash line and smudge. Then, create a thinner line along the lower lash line and smudge upwards. Now for the fun part—starting at the top of the outer corner of your lined upper lash line, draw an upward swoop towards the outer corner of your eyebrow.
Now, you want to "connect" the lower lash line by drawing from the outer corner of your lower lash line upward, connecting with the end point of the swoop. Now, fill in the shape with eyeliner. If your eyes aren't too sensitive, apply the liner to your waterline.
To give Rachel her dramatically voluminous lashes, Nadine used Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara in Black. Tip: If your mascara looks too thick or heavy, try separating lashes with a disposable mascara wand.
Nadine gave Rachel her "just pinched" pink cheeks by applying Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Amused. Use a blush brush to apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, sweeping upwards along your cheekbones for extra lift. Nadine finished Ms. Bilson's retro look by applying Tarte LipSurgence Matte Tint in Lucky.
We know a winged cat eye may seem a little dramatic for a romantic dinner, but if Sophia Loren can rock this look at the grocery store then you can get away with it for date night.
We leave you with the two secrets to achieving the perfect cat eye—1) Try this at home several times before game time 2) Have makeup remover-soaked Q-Tips handy to fix lines and clean up any mess or smears.
With practice you may not be quite in Amy Nadine "perfect game" territory but at least you'll be close to your first no-hitter (Again, ask your man… He'll love it as much as your new sexy cat eye).
