Sacha Baron Cohen won't be channeling Freddie Mercury any time soon.

The 41-year-old actor has dropped out of playing the Queen frontman in an upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic, Cohen's reps confirm to E! News. Isla Fischer's other half left the project due to creative differences.

News that Cohen had been cast as Mercury for the Queen film broke all the way back in September 2010, but the project has yet to get off the ground. The flick would potentially be directed by Les Misérables director Tom Hooper.

According to Deadline, Cohen pulled out from the rock star role because he wasn't seeing eye to eye with Queen's remaining bandmembers who have approval over the movie's script and director. Cohen reportedly wanted to portray an edgier side of the late singer while the Queen bandmembers wanted a more PG-friendly film.

Katy Perry was once rumored to be getting a part in the biopic as one of Mercury's girlfriends, but the pop star shot down the casting reports last year in June. "There's been no formal offer," she told us of the film. "Although I do like the association and I like the company because I think Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious."

Now, neither Perry nor Cohen will be rocking along to Queen hits like "We Are the Champions," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You," which will reportedly be performed in the flick.
