And Mindy Kaling's fictional love life continues to inspire jealousy!

James Franco is set to guest star on The Mindy Project's second season, Fox announced on Tuesday. The Oscar-nominated actor and filmmaker will make his debut on the hit sitcom in the season two premiere, airing Tuesday, Sept. 17, and he will stick around for the following episode.

But will he be Mindy's new love interest? Not exactly! Turns out, Shulman & Associates needed to replace Mindy after she decided to go to Haiti with Pastor Casey (Anders Holm) in the season finale. And guess who is her replacement?!

Franco will be playing Dr. Paul Leotard, the charismatic and popular doctor who takes Mindy's spot at the firm. Dr. Leotard is a former professional fashion model who altered his career goals after he accidentally walked off a runway at a fashion show and was saved by a pregnant woman. From that fateful day forward, he devoted himself to helping pregnant woman.

This isn't the first time Kaling and Franco have worked together: They both played themselves in this summer's apocalypse flick This Is the End, which was written and co-directed by Seth Rogen, a season one guest star on The Mindy Project.

Franco, who will roasted by Comedy Central in a special set to air on Labor Day, is just the latest star to guest on the Fox sitcom: Allison Williams, Seth Meyers, Ellie Kemper, B.J. Novak, Common, Ed Helms, Bill Hader, Tyler the Creator, Mark & Jay Duplass and Chloe Sevigny all popped up in season one. Franco's past TV appearances include the cult favorite Freaks and Geeks, General Hospital and Hollywood Heights.

The Mindy Project returns Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 9 p.m. on Fox.
