J.K. Rowling Revealed as Author of Crime Novel The Cuckoo's Calling

Harry Potter scribe penned the book under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith

Pretty sneaky, J.K. Rowling.

It seems as if the Harry Potter author, unbeknownst to most, published a book earlier this year that she wrote under a pseudonym.

However, it's now been revealed to all that the author of The Cuckoo's Calling, Robert Galbraith, is actually Rowling.

"I had hoped to keep this secret a little longer, because Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience," she said in a statement to the London's Sunday Times. "It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation, and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name."

Rowling added, "The upside of being rumbled is that I can publicly thank my editor David Shelley, who has been a true partner in crime, all those people at Little, Brown who have been working so hard on The Cuckoo's Calling without realizing that I wrote it, and the writers and reviewers, both in the newspapers and online, who have been so generous to the novel."

While the book had only sold about 1,500 hardback copies since its April release, Reuters reports that by Monday, it quickly moved to the top of Amazon.co.uk's best-selling list after word got out that Rowling had been the one who put pen to paper while posing as a retired military policeman supposedly named Robert Galbraith.

"For a title that isn't even in our top 5,000 to shoot to number one so quickly is almost unheard of," Darren Hardy, books manager of Amazon.co.uk, told Reuters.

Publisher Reagan Arthur said in a statement that Little, Brown will be reprinting The Cuckoo's Calling, about war veteran-turned-private investigator Cormoran Strike looking into the death of a supermodel, with a revised author biography that reads, "Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling."

In her statement to the Sunday Times, Rowling said, "And to those who asked for a sequel, Robert fully intends to keep writing the series, although he will probably continue to turn down personal appearances."

"We're looking forward to publishing Strike's next installment in summer 2014," publisher Arthur added.

The Cuckoo's Calling comes on the heels of Rowling's other adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, which was released in September 2012.
