Despicable Me 2 rocked this weekend's box office, pushing way past the Lone Ranger's gross with $82.5 million for the No. 1 spot.
Universal Pictures' animated flick netted the production company its biggest five-day gross ever with a whopping $142.1 million, according to Forbes.
Meanwhile, the Lone Ranger landed in second, falling short of analysts' expectations with $29.4 million in its debut ($48.9 million total during the same period). This was a big disappointment for Disney, with the adventure flick costing the studio about $225 million to make.
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy's comedy The Heat followed with $25 million, along with Monsters University with $19.6 million and World War Z at $18.2 million.
Also worth mentioning is Kevin Hart's stand up comedy film Let Me Explain, which raked in $10.1 million in its debut. The film could be on its way to become one of the highest grossing stand-up comedy films of all time.
It had the second highest opening for a film in its genre behind The Original Kings of Comedy (which opened with $11.1 million), and currently sits at No. 5 for the highest-grossing stand-up comedy films ever.
