Hollywood is applauding the United States Supreme Court.
In two 5-4 rulings on Wednesday, the high court dismissed a defense of Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure in California that outlawed same-sex marriage, and determined that the federal Defense of Marriage Act, signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996, is unconstitutional.
The verdict is not only a huge victory for gay rights activists who sued to ensure same-sex spouses are entitled to federal benefits and equal protection under the law, but it's a cause for celebration among celebrities who for years have been advocating for the court to overturn DOMA.
Here's a roundup of stars' reactions on Twitter:
Demi Lovato "Gay, straight, lesbian, bi.. No one is better than any one else. What an incredible day for California AND for equality."
