Hosts Bill Turnbull and Susanna Reid did the majority of the talking, attempting to come up with follow-up questions and new topics to discuss in response to McCartney's brief, low-key and at-times deadpan answers (when he didn't just reply with a "mmm").
"Paul McCartney, who's he?" Turnbull joked after seeing McCartney's name on the credits. "Oh, he's my father," a straight-faced James responded (which is an indicator of McCartney's extremely laid-back style).
The musician was then asked whether his father was a "friendly critic" of his work and he answered, "Constructive criticism, definitely yeah."
And that's pretty much how the entire interview went. Not great, but "excruciating"?
