Looking to take a cue from Ellie's show-stopping style? We caught up with the actress on the red carpet at the CFDA Awards in New York City to learn her three rules on getting glam for any occasion—whether you're headed to a wedding, date night with your boyfriend or anything in between.

Here's what she shared with us: 

1. Don't Forget About Comfort: Going glam doesn't mean you have to sacrifice comfort. "Choose something you feel good in is always important," Ellie says. Our tip: If you don't feel like yourself in a clingy form-fitting dress, pick something that suits you better.

2. Take a Fashion Risk: "Choose something you don't normally wear," she says. "Stretch yourself!" You'll look instantly poised and polished if you wear an outfit with confidence.

3. Find a Fabulous Dress: When you're out shopping for that new dress make sure it's a total eye-catcher, like Ellie's metallic moment on the red carpet. "When getting glam, of course it helps to have a fabulous dress like mine tonight by Naeem Khan."
