Courtesy of TwitterSome film buffs were in for quite a scare this past May at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival when a series of small explosions went off during a live taping of Le Grand Journal.
Although it was initially reported the noise was caused by gunshots, police later confirmed it was actually blanks. On Monday, the man behind the incident, 43-year-old Stephane Cros, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Cros, who was armed with a replica Smith & Wesson gun and a fake grenade, said during the hearing that he wanted to take hostages and reportedly ranted about local government.
Per Deadline, the judge said, "To use terror and violence as a way to impose one's political ideals is the definition itself of terrorism. I'm not saying this was an act of terrorism, but intellectually the method is the same, only the degree of violence makes the difference."
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
