Jessica Chastain may have a hot boyfriend, but you won't catch her flaunting the romance on a red carpet.
At least not right now.
"Sometimes when someone [in the press] asks me about my dating status, I get really quiet about that because I want to protect it," Chastain, whose boyfriend is Italian fashion executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, told me during an excluusive interview at the Maui Film Festival where she received the Nova Award. "When I'm engaged someday—who knows to who—I'll probably be more open about it."
Chastain worries that being so public could come back to haunt her.
"Seeing all these interviews with actors talking about loves of their lives and then they break up in a year and you're thinking, 'What if something happens and they end up being a total jerk?'" she said. "Then you forever have these pictures of you standing on the red carpets together."
Smart move, Ms. Chastain.
Speaking of keeping things hush-hush, Chastain will soon be shooting Interstellar, director Christopher Nolan's supersecret science-fiction film reportedly based on physicist Kip Thorne's theories about gravity and wormholes.
She was filming Miss Julie in Northern Ireland when she got the call that Nolan was interested in her.
"They put someone on a plane and flew them to Ireland and then drove them two house to my location to hand me the script to read," Chastain remembered. "That's how secret this movie is. There's no email. There's no FedEx. Someone gets on a plane from L.A. and flies to Northern Ireland."
And no, she wasn't allowed to keep it. Chastain smiled, "I gave it back to the very nice gentleman and he got back on a plane and went back to L.A."
