George Lucas picked up his first trophy as Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the show he executive produces for the Cartoon Network, was honored with an Outstanding Special Class Animation Emmy at the 40th annual ceremony, which was broadcast live on HLN from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
The Star Wars mastermind was presented the award by Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher, who cracked before opening the envelope, "Our nominees haven't taken acid, at least not with me—which is, as most of you know, the only way to go. Right, George?"
Lucas subsequently went on to thank the TV Academy for singling out animation as well as "all those poor souls who toil over their computers."
The evening's most notable win meanwhile went to NBC's Days of Our Lives, which beat out perennial rivals General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless and One Life to Live for best daytime drama series. The soap's Chandler Massey also took home Younger Actor in a Drama Series.
The Bold and the Beautiful however racked up the most wins with four including Lead Actress for star Heather Tom (her second in a row) and Supporting Actor for Scott Clifton.
On the talk show front, Dr. Mehmet Oz's hit gabfest repeated in the Outstsanding Informative Talk Show category while The Ellen Degeneres Show was singled out for best Entertainment Talk Show, it's seventh. Ricki Lake also scored for best Talk Show host.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to game show host Monty Hall of Lets Make a Deal fame and The Price Is Right producer Bob Stewart.
Meanwhile Kevin Clash—the puppeteer who voiced Elmo for 28 years until he resigned last fall amid sex abuse accusations—reportedly snagged three trophies at Friday's creative arts ceremony, among them outstanding performing in a children's series for his work on Sesame Street. Clash has denied the allegations and his lawyer has filed a motion to have several sexual misconduct suits filed against him dismissed.
But Sunday's telecast, which was hosted by Good Morning America's Sam Champion, HLN Showbiz Tonight's AJ Hammer and HLN Morning Express anchor Robin Meade, wasn't without its share of gaffes.
The most memorable one came when The Talk's Aisha Tyler was given the wrong envelope and joked at one point that "apparently Homeland won for best informative talk show."
