Ethan Hawke is taking center stage in Shakespeare's Macbeth at New York City's Lincoln Center this winter in the titular role.

The seasoned actor will work with director Jack O'Brien, who worked with him on the 2003-2004 Broadway play Henry IV.

The play will begin previews for a selected audience on Oct. 24, the Lincoln Center Theater announced Thursday.

It appears that Hawke has wanted to play the tragic Scot for quite a while.

"It's a part I've always wanted to play," he revealed on the PBS series Shakespeare Uncovered.

And just in case you don't get your fill of the famous play with Hawke, Michael Fassbender is slated to star as the power-mad ruler in the upcoming film adaptation.

It was also announced in May that Natalie Portman would join the film to star as the scheming Lady Macbeth in the remake.

Production on the Justin Kurzel-directed flick will begin later this year.
