Bada bing: Just like that, James Gandolfini is seeking a permanent split from his wife of three years.

The portly patriarch of HBO's lovable Mob family The Sopranos filed for divorce Tuesday from wife Marcy Wudarski, the actor's spokesman confirms. Gandolfini publicist Stan Rosenfield did not give a reason for the split, saying only that the actor filed the papers in New York.

The 41-year-old actor married Wudarski in March 1999, and the couple have one son, Michael, who is almost 3. The family had shared a home in New Jersey, where The Sopranos is shot, as well as a Greenwich Village apartment.

Aside from his Emmy-winning work on The Sopranos, Gandolfini's big-screen credits include The Last Castle, The Mexican and 8mm. Prior to their split, Wudarski praised the actor's ability to devote time to both family and career.

"He's got a huge family, he manages to spend time with them. We have a two-year-old boy, he spends a ton of time with him, a ton of time with me--and he has this unbelievable [work] schedule," she told USA Today. "I think he's a mastermind at organization. That makes you successful in life."

Added Gandolfini: "My family is very important to me. I'm very Italian in that way."
