Rupert Murdoch Files for Divorce From Third Wife Wendi Deng

Two were married in 1999 and have two daughters together

It's the end of an era for Rupert Murdoch and Wendi Deng Murdoch.

The News Corp. CEO has filed for divorce from his third wife earlier today, a spokesperson for Rupert Murdoch confirmed to E! News.

The 82-year-old filed the divorce petition in New York Supreme Court.

The two, who met in 1997, got married on Murdoch's yacht in New York in June 1999. They also have two daughters together, Grace and Chloe.

Details on why the media mogul filed for the split are still unclear, as well as how the divorce will affect the company.

Deng made headlines in 2011 after she publicly defended her husband from a pie-throwing assailant during a U.K. parliament hearing.

Deng tried to slap the prankster after the pie-throwing attempt during his phone hacking testimony.

According to Forbes, Murdoch is said to have a net worth of more than $11 billion—ranking him at No. 91 of the world's wealthiest billionaires.

He split with his previous wife, Anna, after 32 years of marriage. The two reached a reported $1.7 billion settlement in what was dubbed "the most expensive" divorce at the time.
