Before J.J. Abrams tackles the new Star Wars movie, we think he should head over to do some directing at Downton Abbey.
"I'd love him to direct an episode," series creator Gareth Neame told me last night at the Downton Abbey Q&A in North Hollywood. "I have this idea that a spaceship lands outside Downton and some alien aristocrats, some alien servants come out, something like that."
Abrams happens to be a big fan of the hit series. He even visited the set once and tweeted a photo of himself with Phyllis Logan, who plays Mrs. Hughes, standing in Downton's basement kitchen.
"That was a bit naughty, wasn't it? I had my hairnet on and everything," Logan said last night "We were going to get changed for another scene, and he was standing in the kitchen and he picked up Mrs. Padmore's basin and he was posing for one of his friends with a phone camera.
"I just went behind him, he didn't know I was there, and tapped him on the shoulder," she continued. "And then next thing, everybody's taking pictures."
Sounds like Abrams is already feeling quite at home on the set.
