Kanye West has produced every one of John Legend's solo albums, so needless to say, they knock each other pretty well.

On Sunday's Oprah's Next Chapter, John opens up about how the public perception of 'Ye differs from who he really is.

"You know, he's not afraid to tell the truth," John tells Oprah Winfrey. "He's bold. You know, obviously we have very different personalities. But he's a genius creatively, and I think the public can see that through his art and through his work."

"Honestly, a lot of who he is in public is who he is in private," he goes on. "But he's also—I think people don't always see the generous side of him; they don't always see the guy who's been working with me and contributing to my work for over 10 years. They don't necessarily see all of that in public, and I see that."

Aw. Also pretty endearing is the way John lights up when Oprah asks about proposing to fiancée Chrissy Teigen. "I don't think it was like one particular moment, but I knew I loved her," he says. "I knew I could see myself living with her and spending time with her forever. I knew I could envision us having kids together, and I felt like it was time to propose."

"She didn't pressure me," he clarified. "She didn't say, you know, it's time to put a ring on it—I felt like it was time for us to get married."
