Actress Jian Khan was pronounced dead Monday after her mother discovered the star's body hanging in her room at her Mumbai home, the victim of an apparent suicide. She was 25.
Per the BBC, a police post-mortem confirmed that the star killed herself. Her body was discovered at around 10:45 p.m.
No suicide note was found, and authorities are reportedly questioning the last person she purportedly spoke with on the phone.
The New York–born Khan was raised in London and made her Bollywood debut at the age of 18 in the 2007 film Nishabd. Inspired by Vladimir Nabokov's literary classic Lolita, the film was directed by Ram Gopal Varma, who paid tribute to his leading lady on Twitter in the wake of the news of passing.
"Never ever seen a debutant actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when I was directing her in Nishabd," he wrote, adding, "The whole unit of Nishabd was literally in love with Jiah."
