All In the Family Star Jean Stapleton Dies at 90

Actress who appeared on iconic CBS sitcom passes away of natural causes in her home

Jean Stapleton, known for playing Edith Bunker on the iconic CBS' sitcom All In the Family passed away Friday in New York City. The actress was 90-years-old and died of natural causes in her home.

In a statement released by her children, it's clear Jean was loved dearly. "Being the children of a beloved Mother on Television means sharing the spirit of who Jean Stapleton was with her friends and fans. It is with great love and heavy hearts that we say farewell to our collective Mother, with a capital M," the statement reads.

"Her devotion to her craft and her family taught us all great life lessons. Thank you for the outpouring of love and respect. We appreciate it deeply. Sincerely yours, John Putch & Pamela Putch."

The late actress scored three Emmy Awards for her role on All in the Family, where she played the wife of Carroll O'Connor's character, Archie Bunker.

Stapleton last starred opposite Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail

Stapleton was married to William Putch, a producer and director who died in 1993. She's survived by their two children, producer Pamela Putch and director John Putch.
