Until recently, slimming down was a constant battle for Trisha Yearwood.

"I would get into this cycle of losing and gaining the same few pounds over and over again," Garth Brooks' wife of eight years told Katie Couric.

So what changed? The country crooner said the passing of her parents was a real "wake-up call."

"Part of their illnesses were related to their lifestyles and diets," explained the singer whose father developed adult-onset diabetes and whose mother battled breast cancer.

Trisha said the deeper motivation of becoming truly healthy was "a big difference than 'I want to wear a smaller size.'"

And although she admits she does want to fit into tinier clothes, "I've always been a heavy girl, I've never been little," she says, adding: "I'm still not exactly where I want to be, but I feel so much better."
