January Jones isn't trying to charm her way to the top of the A-list—she's quite content working her way there.

Which is why the Mad Men star is completely unconcerned with her public persona, refusing to divulge details about her personal life, including the identity of the father of her 20-month-old son Xander.

"That's my son's business," she told The New York Times in response to the public obsession with her mystery baby daddy. "It's not the public's business."

Jones admits she isn't trying to be the most adored actress in Hollywood, and she'd rather keep her personal life private, even if it means fans may not relate.

"Jack Nicholson once told me, ‘You should never give your personal life away, otherwise people will pick you apart. They'll never believe in your character,'" she recalls.

In an age of constant social sharing, the 35-year-old actress expresses a starkly different approach when it comes to playing the Hollywood game.

"Women should have lots of secrets," she said. "It's our right to have secrets. Otherwise, what would we write in our memoirs?"

One controversial secret that she has shared? Her decision to eat her placenta in an effort to curb postpartum baby blues after her son's birth.

"It was like taking a vitamin blended into a smoothie," she explained before adding a touch of her signature sarcasm. "I'm a mammal. I nursed. I did all kinds of weird stuff."
