Beauty Police: Nicole Kidman Has a Hair and Makeup Identity Crisis at Cannes

After missing the Met Gala, Kidman still seemed eager to get in on the punk rock theme

Apparently Nicole Kidman was upset that she couldn't make the punk-themed Met Gala and thought she'd make up for it at Cannes by wearing this fauxhawk helmet. It wouldn't have been so terrible at the Met, but paired with Nicole's Grace Kelly-esque Dior dress and classic makeup, it was a disorienting disaster.

Looking at Nicole straight on, we were impressed by what appeared to be a timeless updo that showcased her flattering makeup and strapless dress. Then we saw the side view and were left scratching our heads. Her hair is actually a tightly pulled-back French twist covered by the teased top section of hair and pulled into a ponytail by a clear elastic band.

Is she going for a fauxhawk helmet or is it supposed to be more of a pompadour ponytail?  Either way, it did not work with the rest of her timeless look.

Beauty Bailout: We know Nicole was trying to be edgy with her hair styling, but she should have waited until she was wearing a more fitting outfit and attending a more appropriate occasion.

We wish she had pulled all of her hair back into a classic French twist or a chignon. Or that she'd just worn the soft waves she had hours before at the Cannes Jury photo call.

Get the (Makeup) Look: We may question the hair, but that's no reason to ignore the fact that her makeup is gorgeous. To get Nicole's classic look, start by covering your entire upper eye area (up to eyebrow) with an ivory matte shadow like Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Ivory.

Then, use a black fine-tipped liquid liner pen or kohl pencil to make a thin line along your upper lash line as close to your lashes as possible. Next, apply an icy blue eye shadow like Bare Escentuals Eye Shadow in Blue Moon to your crease and blend it slightly outwards and upwards (this will give your eyes a lifted look).

Now, take a flat eyeliner brush and apply the icy blue shadow to the bottom lash line and blend. To make this look really sparkle, apply a shimmery champagne shadow like CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Shadow in Champagne in the inner corner of your eyes with your ring finger or a small shadow brush.

Finish the look off with a vibrant long-lasting fuchsia lip color like Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Bright Fuchsia.

Since Nicole seems to be struggling with her style identity, we'll help her out: Nicole, stick with the Grace Kelly look! It works for your features and it helps promote your new Grace Kelly movie. Everybody wins! Well, except the hairstylist who told you this fauxhawk was a good idea.
