Even the undisputed Queen of Soul has to r-e-s-p-e-c-t the doctor's orders.
Franklin, 71, was scheduled to perform this Monday at Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the 24th annual Corporate Night. Per her Facebook page, Janelle Monáe has graciously agreed to step in for this special performance.
Franklin did not disclose the condition for which her doctor is recommending treatment. In December 2010, however, there were widespread reports that she was suffering from pancreatic cancer. The Grammy winner told Access Hollywood she did not suffer from the disease, and would only reveal she had a pain in her side that "was so hard it almost brought me to my knees."
She underwent surgery for this pain (about which she did not provide further information) and was pleased with the results.
"[My doctor] said, 'The surgery that you just had is going to add 15 to 20 more years to your life.'"
Wishing Miss Franklin well as she undergoes treatment this time around.
