George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are all spaced out.

The teaser trailer for the stars' highly anticipated new 3-D space thriller Gravity has hit the Web, giving audiences this first, nail-biting look at a shuttle mission gone terribly, terribly wrong.

Directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban), Gravity follows two astronauts—Clooney's veteran spacewalker and Bullock's newbie medical pro—who attempt to complete a mission high above the earth.

As the two soak up glorious views of the planet amid a breathtaking sunrise, things take a horrific, violent turn when their shuttle is destroyed, causing the astronauts to tumble through space while debris from the spacecraft hurtles toward earth.

Marooned high above the planet and with no help in sight, the duo find themselves drifting into a silent, terrifying blackness.

The project itself has had a tumultuous journey to the big-screen: Natalie Portman was originally attached to star before dropping out, and the film was set to open in November 2012 before its release date was pushed back.

Gravity is the first full-length feature from Cuarón since his 2006 apocalyptic saga Children of Men, which nabbed the visionary filmmaker an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

It's set to hit theaters on Oct. 4.
