It's a sad day in the soap world.
Jeanne Cooper, the longest-running cast member from The Young and the Restless, passed away today at age 84.
Her son Corbin Bernsen posted the news on Facebook, saying, "My mother passed away this morning just a short time ago, peaceful with my sister by her side, in her sleep."
Joshua Morrow, one of the actress's costars, told E! News, "She was an icon in the industry and even a bigger icon to me personally. She loved her job and the fans more than anyone I know. This building will never be the same. I will miss her every day."
Doug Davidson, who starred as Paul Williams on the show, also paid tribute to his costar.
"Jeanne was at the signing of my first contract and the birth of my two children," he said. "There's no replacing her; there's a hole in my heart."
CBS President Nina Tassler released the following statement regarding the tragic news: "Jeanne Cooper will be remembered as a daytime television legend and as a friend who will truly be missed by all of us here at the Network."
