Harry Connick Jr. Talks American Idol, Potentially Becoming a Judge—Watch Now!

Harry Connick Jr. obviously knows a thing or two about the music industry, and he's a big fan of American Idol.

He's also worked as a mentor on the show, and there have been rumors that he's being considered to be a judge on the hit competition series. But on Wednesday's Ellen, the singer-actor set the record straight about his Idol future.

"I've done it twice and I had so much fun, but they haven't said, 'Do you want to be a judge?'" he told Ellen DeGeneres. "Like the security people and a couple of the interns say, 'Oh, you would be a good judge.' I'm like, 'Oh, well, thank you.'"

"But I haven't had an actual talk," he went on. "And then I see online, like, I'm in talks. Even my wife is like, 'Wait, you're in talks with them?' I said, 'No. I'm not.' I haven't talked to anybody."

Ellen asked Harry if he "would like to be a judge if someone would talk to you other than security or interns."

His response? "Well, yeah, I mean I had a really good time!"

"I had a good time mentoring. Judging is a whole different deal," he went on. "I don't know how good I would be at that."

"I think you would be good, but it is hard," Ellen admitted. (She was a judge for the ninth season of the show.)  "I find it hard to criticize someone especially because they all have talent."

Fair point. But, wouldn't it be great to have Harry on the panel each week?
