Queen Elizabeth II to Miss Commonwealth Meeting for the First Time in 40 Years

Her Majesty's son, Prince Charles, will be representing his mother at summit in Sri Lanka

Queen Elizabeth II is sitting this one out.

To be specific, the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting taking place later in the year.

According to the BBC, the announcement was made on Tuesday by Buckingham Palace, which said it was reviewing the number of long-haul trips Her Majesty takes.

The meeting is scheduled for November in Sri Lanka. The 87-year-old royal's son, Prince Charles, will represent his mother at the summit.

This will mark the first time since 1973 that the queen will not be in attendance.
