Imagine it: Jake Gyllenhaal in a expertly tailor tuxedo, hair perfectly coiffed back as he looks down on the swinging party that he's throwing in his luxurious mansion. And keep imagining it, because that's the only way you'll see Gyllenhaal as Jay Gatsby.

But you can hear him narrate The Great Gatsby, though of course, that means he'll be voicing the narrator (Nick Carraway) and not the character that Leonardo DiCaprio is embodying in the upcoming Baz Luhrmann adaptation.

This new audio book reading (available on Audible) comes with a seal of approval from author F. Scott Fitzgerald's estate. And a seal of swooniness from us.

NEWS: E! Online is livestreaming The Great Gatsby premiere on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET!

Below, about 20 minutes of excerts from Gatsby, read by Gyllenhaal:

Audible Editor Chris gushes, "Gyllenhaal treats it with the utmost respect, allowing the vivid descriptions of mansions, landmarks, and 1920s New York to flow at just the right pace."

Sure, it's a nice consolation prize and all, but maybe we can remake The Great Gatsby again in a few years and give Jake a shot at it? How handsome he'd look is reason alone to fork up the cash, Hollywood!
