NetflixKate Mara insists her sex scenes with Kevin Spacey in the amazingly awesome House of Cards aren't as awkward as you might think.
"It's not uncomfortable at all," she told me last night at a screening and Q&A about the hit Netflix series at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. "We were cracking up a lot of the time…You can't really prepare to do a sex scene. We were drinking coffee right before. It was nothing."
It's definitely not nothing for her dad, New York Giants vice president Timothy Mara. He has has to watch both Kate and her sister, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara, in some very NSFW positions.
"My dad keeps just saying what we told him when were about 12 and started acting—‘It's just acting, Dad!'" Kate said. "So he keeps reminding himself of that every time we have to disrobe in any way."
No surprise, but Kate won't watch the show with her father. "Absolutely not," she said. "I mean, I don't like sitting next to him whenever we're watching my sister's movies. I just kind of hold my hand over his eyes when certain things happen."
If you've Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, you know those "certain things" are a lot more hardcore than what goes down on House of Cards.
"For me, it's easy," said Kate (who, by the way, looked fab in a pale green Mulberry ensemble!). "My parents are like, ‘Whatever, we've seen a lot worse.'"
