Following the actress's Friday arrest for disorderly conduct, she admitted she was "deeply embarrassed" and flat-out said, "I'm very sorry for my behavior."
Job well done. She's not the only celeb who has taken the high road. Here are five more stars whose statements we won't soon be forgetting.
1. Justin Timberlake: In October 2012, a controversial video featuring homeless people congratulating J.T. and Jessica Biel on their wedding went viral. In an open letter on his website, Justin said that while he "had no knowledge of [the tape's] existence,' he was "holding myself accountable." Like a class act, Justin apologized on behalf of his friends for the distasteful clip.
2. Kristen Stewart: When the actress's relationship with Snow White and the Hustman director Rupert Sanders came to light in July 2012, she was quick to try and right things. "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," she said in a statement. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob [Robert Pattinson]. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry." The pair are now back together.
3. Kanye West: Remember when 'Ye snatched the mic from Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV VMA's? During an appearance on the Tonight Show, Kanye admitted his onstage stint, "was just very rude, period" and said he'd "like to apologize to [Taylor] in person." Explaining that he hadn't really taken the time off to process his mother Donda's death, he said, "I'm just ashamed my hurt caused someone else hurt."
4. Fred Willard: In July 2012, this funnyman got caught with his pants down (literally) and was arrested for allegedly engaging in lewd conduct at an L.A. adult movie theater. When he dropped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon a few weeks later, he made light of the incident at first, joking the movie he was watching was "sadly" Get Shorty. But then he got serious, telling Jimmy: "It's embarrassing, as well. But let me say this: Nothing happened. I did nothing wrong. Everything is being sorted out as we speak...I have great respect for the authorities…but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time everything seems suspicious…it is painful, but I'm trying to laugh the whole thing off."
5. Hugh Grant: This one might set the standard for taking responsibilty for one's actions. In 1995, Hugh was arrested for picking up a prostitute named Divine Brown. When Jay Leno asked the charming Brit about the incident, Hugh answered, after stumbling over his words, "I did a bad thing. And there you have it." Clear. Concise. Point made.
We all make mistakes. What important is how you pick up the pieces and move forward.
