Is Eddie Murphy trying to arrest production of the TV version of Beverly Hills Cop?

Tabloid reports are circulating that Murphy—who shot to stardom in the original 1984 classic film—threatened to drop out of the pilot CBS is currently developing if producers didn't revamp the show to revolve around his character, Axel Foley, rather than Axel's son, played by Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder). But Murphy's rep tells E! that the report is "absolutely not true."

In fact, Murphy himself is one of the potential series' executive producers, along with The Shield's Shawn Ryan. The CBS pilot, which is currently in production, finds Axel's son, Aaron, as a Detroit cop transplanted to Beverly Hills. (Sound familiar?) Aaron, who's grown up in the shadow of his famous dad, is eager to make a name for himself. Besides acting as a producer, Murphy guest stars in the pilot and may recur on the series if CBS picks it up for the 2013-2014 season.
