Peter Jackson is already getting to work hyping The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The famed director posted on his Facebook page a six-minute excerpt of a live event he held online last week giving fans an update on the second entry in his trilogy of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, which he's now deep into editing.
And the Q&A that followed featured a couple of surprise questioners—Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert and Billy Boyd, the thesp who played Pippin Took in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings series.
As a diehard Middle-earth devotee, Colbert of course couldn't resist asking the barefoot director about the Elves of Mirkwood (Jackson was a guest on The Colbert Report back in December), while Boyd wondered what lands beyond the Misty Mountains Jackson plans to reveal in the next adventure.
The filmmaker also showed some artwork related to the dwarves' journey through the evil Mirkwood forest—what Jackson promised is "one of the scarier acts of the story."
